Join us as we volunteer to help clean up the gardens of Norris Square Neighborhood Project (“NSNP”). NSNP is a unique organization, offering youth and community residents a safe space to explore culture and social-justice issues, create art, and develop their sustainable agricultural skills. NSNP’s mission is to unite and inspire youth and families using the strengths of the community: shared cultural wisdom, creative energies, and environmental spaces and experiences. For over 45 years NSNP has helped the surrounding community build leadership skills and relationships, as well as increase knowledge about urban agriculture, and performing and visual arts. NSNP annually serves 100 high school youth through after-school and summer programs, while also serving the community through innovative programming incorporating its six Puerto Rican/Latinx culturally-themed garden spaces. We may be lucky enough to meet the founder of NSNP, Iris Brown, who is featured in the video below.

Safety First: For your safety, we are limiting participation to 50 people. Families and younger children are welcome. We also will provide an onsite art project for children.
Location: We will meet at the office at 2141 N. Howard Street, Philadelphia, PA 19133. One of NSNP’s gardens, Las Parcelas Community Garden, is located at 2248 Palethorp Street. Palethrop is a narrow street, but there is plenty of parking on the streets perpendicular to Palethorp (Susquehanna and Dauphin).
What to bring: Please bring MASKS, gloves (to work in the gardens, if you have some), closed toe shoes, appropriate clothing and a refillable water bottle (NSNP will provide drinking water), and if you are able, garbage bags for collecting debris and trash.
Restrooms: Restrooms are available in the African Village garden (a compost toilet) and in the NSNP office.
