L-R: Ilana Zahavy, Charlotte Jacobson, Miriam Hafkin, Adina Olson, Rachel Harmon

What a joy to see you our BAI teens teaching our community!! Thank you to  high school Sophomores Rachel Harmon, Miriam Hafkin, Ilana Zahavy and Adina Olson. On April 21 in Beit Midrash our JYCM teens taught a fun, educational program on the topics of recycling, saving our planet and how we can be more thoughtful in what and how we eat!

On April 24, Miriam, Rachel and Charlotte Jacobson led part of our Nitzanim/Sprouts outdoor program helping our garden grow, planting and getting dirty with the worms! Nitzanim/Sprouts is our outdoor educational programming for 3-5 year old kids and their grown ups. According to Hazon,

The Jewish Youth Climate Movement, founded in 2019, is a Gen Z-led movement dedicated to combating climate change and environmental injustice from a Jewish lens. Our goal is to make taking collective action towards climate justice a central, defining feature of what it means to be Jewish over the next decade, empowering the next generation of Jewish youth to be leaders in our fight to build a sustainable and equitable world for all. JYCM is supported by Hazon, the largest faith-based environmental organization in the U.S.

At BAI, our Teen Leaders have presented at our annual MLK Day of Service and Dialogue and to our Beit Midrash program.

For MLK Day 2022, Beth Am Israel’s chapter of JYCM (Jewish Youth Climate Movement ) hosted an interactive teen discussion about trash in the ocean, recycling, waste in our homes, and waste in grocery stores.

At a community discussion on gun violence prevention, one of the participants from Congregation Beth David, unsolicited, shared great praise about various BAI programs that he has attended, and he raved about the MLK Day zoom sessions.  As much as he appreciated all of the programming, he was completely blown away by the JYCM Group and our amazing teens who give us all some reason to hope that the future will be brighter.  Yasher Koach to Rachel Harmon, Ilana Zahavy, Miriam Hafkin and Adina Olson.
