MLK Day of Service and Learning 2023
A huge thank you to everyone who participated in Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service this year! We had a combination of online – synchronous and asynchronous – activities and learning opportunities, in-person collection events, and in-person programming for our teens, Shorashim and BAI families. - PAR eRecycle Drive
- Collection of donated items like: Diapers & baby wipes, Gently used clothes, Food items for new immigrant welcome boxes
- Challah braiding with Nazun (formerly Challah for Hunger)
- Sorting donated clothing for Our Closet
- Bake sale, student-run, proceeds going to charity of their choice
- Cook for a Friend: packing dinner trays for home-bound seniors
- Casserole Baking
- Packing welcome boxes for Latinx new arrivals.
- Green teen activity: learning about the Ya’ar/Woodlands – native plants, invasive species
- Souls Shot Portrait Project: This project links fine artists with families or friends of victims of gun violence. The artists meet with the victims’ loved ones to learn about the lives they lived.
- Zoom Discussion: What Does Environmental Justice Look Like and How Do We Achieve It?
Join Reverend Carolyn Cavaness of Bethel AME of Ardmore for a meaningful and productive conversation about Environmental Racism and what we can do to right this wrong - Zoom Discussion: Food Insecurity on College Campuses. Led by Rachel Barr of Nazun (formerly Challah for Hunger).
- Zoom Discussion: Climate Mis/disinformation led by Phyllis Blumberg. In this important session, we focuseed on how to respond to wrong climate statements, disinformation from the media, and expert ideas for appropriate responses.
