Join us June 7 at 7:00p for a live BAI community viewing of the new documentary Dreaming of Jerusalem.  Co-directed by BAI’s own Professor Peter Decherney and Ethiopian multimedia visual artist, Sosena Solomon, this is a fascinating 25-minute film about the Jewish community in Gondar, Ethiopia, who have been blocked from emigrating to Israel.

Over the last 40 years, more than 100,000 Ethiopian Jews have emigrated to Israel. One group, however, has been left behind, because their families were converted to Christianity by missionaries in the late 19th century. Although this group has resumed their Jewish religion and customs, about 12,000 members remain in Gondar and Addis Ababa, “dreaming of Jerusalem” and hoping to come to the Promised Land.

After the co-directors introduce the documentary, participants will be able to watch the film in full fidelity through a special link. Then the co-directors will respond to open questions and discussion.

Event sponsored by the LifeLong Learning and Israeli Affairs Committees.
