Dear Beth Am friends,
Many of you are likely aware of the fatal shooting that occurred in Ardmore this past Saturday. The shooting involved the sale of a ghost gun and a 2019 LM graduate and other kids/young men many of our children know. I am sending this announcement in the hope that many of you can join us this Wednesday as we come together in our community’s time of need. Please see the below announcement from Rev. Carolyn Cavaness of Bethel AME Church. I will update everyone when there is a date and time set for the vigil this weekend (mentioned below).
With love and gratitude for our community,
Elisa

Friends of the Ardmore Community,
Let’s all work to be a solution to gun violence. Stand with us at a press conference at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 14 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Ardmore. This gathering offers the neighborhood an opportunity to bear witness to the devastation that gun violence causes and to acknowledge the fact that gun violence is not just an urban problem, but one that devastates families and communities everywhere.
Because this gun murder occurred during an illegal attempt to purchase a “ghost gun,” press conference speakers will also address the destruction caused by these weapons. Ghost guns are fully operational, lethal firearms made of individually acquired parts. Ghost guns have no identifying information, such as model and serial numbers, making law enforcement attempts to trace them during criminal investigations extremely difficult.
There will also be a vigil for the victims of this gun violence, the life taken, the lives irrevocably lost, and to the families and community left to pick up the pieces. The date, time and location are still being finalized. This will be an opportunity to mourn what gun violence has taken from the Ardmore community.
