Good morning, Chaverim/Chaverot,
As the days grow shorter and the pandemic wears on and on, enjoy this marvelous quote from the always inspirational star man…
Here is today’s Gratitude Thought in the Midst of a Pandemic:
“The visions we offer our children shape the future.
It matters what those visions are.
Often they become self-fulfilling prophecies.
Dreams are maps.”
Carl Sagan
What we believe and expect of the future, both our own and our collective futures, “matters”. From where we stand today, on a warming planet, in a country where gun violence is omnipresent and feels inevitable, in an era when hate and fear seem to be winning the day, it is HARD to hold onto a positive vision of the future. Our dreams of the “Dawning of the Age of Aquarius” when “peace will guide the planets” and “love will steer the stars” may be long gone, but we cannot give up hope that there can be a better future for our children and grandchildren. Cynicism and hopelessness are just not an option fo us as Jews who must always “choose life”.
With gratitude for the many blessings and tools we have to forge a new path, we can dream a new dream and create a new vision for a better world. We can create dreams and visions for ourselves and our families and our world that are both realistic AND positive, optimistic and hopeful. We must draw upon the wisdom of our ancestors AND the new ideas and ways of thinking that are bubbling up from people all over the world to find new, creative, and innovative ways to solve the old problems that continue to plague us as well as the new ones that we have created for ourselves.
This new world will be different from the world we knew and there will undoubtedly be things that we will miss and things we may even find frightening, but, there is no going back…we can only go forward together, following the “map” of our dreams with all the gratitude, heart, hope, and courage we can muster.
Shabbat Shalom to all,
Marci
