Wild Philly with Mike Weilbacher

Sunday, April 23, 2023
4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Celebrate Earth Day in unique Beth Am style! Join long-time congregant Mike Weilbacher as he gives a book talk on his newly-released Wild Philly: Explore the Amazing Nature in and Around Philadelphia. We’ll learn the extraordinary stories of our area’s unusual native plants and animals, the Lenape’s impact on our land, threat to local nature, hands on solutions to those threats, and best walks for immersing yourself in Wild Philly. This Q and A talk in our Woodlands is an in-person only event. After the talk, anyone who wishes can join Mike for a nature walk in the Ya’ar and help envision its future.

Copies of Mike’s new book will be available for purchase and a portion of all sales will go to support the ongoing care of our Ya’ar/Woodlands.

Naturalist Mike Weilbacher has directed the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education in Philadelphia’s Upper Roxborough neighborhood since 2011. An environmental educator with a passion for monarch butterflies, dragonflies, goldenrod, and trillium, Mike has more than 40 years of experience teaching through lectures, field trips, writings, and even theater and radio, his work earning him the Keystone Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Environmental Educators and the title of “Citizen Hero” from The Philadelphia Inquirer. He’s also been “Mike the All-Natural Science Guy” on WXPN-FM’s children’s radio show “Kid’s Corner” for more than 30 years.
