Good afternoon, Chaverim/Chaverot,

Since I could not find my way from despair to gratitude last Friday, I was not able to share any “gratitude thoughts”  with you.   Perspective and gratitude are slowly returning…at least long enough today to inspire me to share this quote and some thoughts…

Here is today’s Gratitude Thought in the Midst of a Pandemic:

Hold on to what is good, even if it is a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe, even if it is a tree which stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do, even if it is a long way from here.
Hold on to life, even when it is easier letting it go.

Nancy Wood

This quote helped to remind me that there is still good in the world, even if it is sometimes hard to see it in the darkness; that my deeply held beliefs are worthy (and worth fighting for), even if those with differing beliefs are more than willing to trample and dismiss them; that I am not without power or recourse or opportunity to act to make things better, even if it may take a very long time to see the fruits of my efforts; and that I owe it to myself and to my children and grandchildren and, really, to humanity writ large, to honor and hold tightly to the sanctity and value of life, and of each and every one of us, and to zealously live and fight for that truth each and every day, even when it is hard, maybe especially when it is hard.

So, life has thrown down the gauntlet.  No time to despair or waste, we’ve got work to do!

Oh, and on this fine summer morn we wake to the reality that Katanji Brown Jackson is now a Justice of the Supreme Court…and that, my friends, is reason enough for us all to be grateful!

Shabbat Shalom and Happy 4th to all,
Marci
