Good morning, Chaverim,

You may have noticed that I have reduced these gratitude postings to once per week on Fridays leading into Shabbat.  This is not because I am any less grateful, or that we need gratitude any less, or that we are no longer in the “middle” of a pandemic.  Sadly, the pandemic is still with us and a daily gratitude practice remains as important as ever.

And so, this quote is here to remind us of the potential that gratitude has to impact our lives and our world.

Here is today’s Everyday Gratitude Quote in the Middle of a Pandemic:

“Grateful living brings…

in place of greed: sharing,

in place of oppression: respect,

in place of violence: peace.”

Brother David Steindl-Rast

If we could bring more gratitude into our lives, if we could really live gratefully every day, how might our lives be transformed?

I think that Brother David may be onto something here:

…if we are grateful for all that we have, we can live in a state of abundance rather than scarcity, realizing that we have more than enough to “share”;
…if we are grateful for all of our advantages and all that we have achieved, we can “respect” and value others for their talents and rise above any thought that we need to put others down in order to elevate ourselves; and
…if we are grateful for the blessings of our relative safety and security, we can overcome our fears, let go of any perceived need to aggressively defend ourselves, renounce “violence” and embrace “peace”.

Pretty transformative, subversive, powerful stuff, this gratitude!

Wishing you all a Shabbat filled with gratitude and peace.
Marci
