Meir Shalev: History as Myth; Bible as Literature

Thursday, February 29, 2024
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The recently deceased Israeli writer Meir Shalev is beloved as the creator of whimsical and poignant novels telling of the early days in the history of Israel.  He was also a gifted reader of biblical literature. In this session, we will read from Shalev’s novel Blue Mountain, and from his retelling of the epic Abraham story.

This program will be led by BAIer Ruth Bienstock Anolik, who teaches English, American, and biblical literature at Villanova University, where she also leads film discussions and has facilitated faculty Bible study groups.
