Good afternoon, Chaverim/Chaverot,

This sweet little morsel of wisdom is today’s entry on my “Notes from the Universe” calendar and I thought that perhaps those of you who have of late been overly concerned with “aging” might get a kick out of it like I did.  (You younger folks are free to skip this one!)

The quote I want to share with you today is from the end of an article by Dan Rather, a chronicler of our times.  Mr. Rather notes, as many have, that history was made yesterday with the Senate’s confirmation of the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson as our next Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States of America…”a justice unlike any other in our nation’s history”.

Here is today’s Gratitude Thought in the Midst of a Pandemic:

“9 out of 10 old souls agree that one of the very best things about spiritual maturity, besides the discounts, is appreciating that age is so very meaningless.
The 10th soul?  Presently out climbing trees and could not be reached.”

The Universe

I don’t know about you, but I am truly grateful to be getting older…given that older is all we get…IF we are lucky.  And I am especially grateful for the “spiritual maturity” and the tiny bits of wisdom that are slowly appearing as the years fly ever more quickly by.  And, although I surely have many of the fears and concerns that are also showing up as the numbers climb, I also recognize and appreciate that “age” truly is “so very meaningless”.

One’s age matters, of course, in ways that are both beautiful and sometimes not so beautiful (e.g., what’s happening to my neck!), but it is also clearly a construct that is very much a state of mind…and that means that WE have the power to choose its meaning.

So, here’s hoping that our old, spiritually mature souls, so blessed to be alive in these changing bodies, keep hanging upside down from the branches of the trees, continually making the choice to see the world, and our places in it, as new and beautiful and forever full of love and hope and possibility!

Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach to all,
Marci
