Good afternoon, Chaverim/Chaverot,

This one jumped off the page today, though I am not quite sure why.   I guess this just feels as if it is one of those life lessons that merits a frequent reminder…

Here is today’s Gratitude Thought in the Middle of a Pandemic:

“When perfection exists as the nature of your Heart, why do you lose your composure by dwelling on imperfections?”

Sri Ramana Maharishi

There are a couple of important things to think about here…the first being that perfection already exists within the very nature of our hearts. Wow!  What would happen if we lived as if we really believed that, really “knew” it to be the truth of who each one of us is, who we all are? It seems to me that one of the things that would inevitably flow from that truth would be that we could give up, and free ourselves from the tyranny of, endlessly looking for and “dwelling on imperfections”, both in ourselves and in others.  It would save us both from the discomfort and loss of “composure” that we experience from constantly seeking (and expecting!) perfection in ourselves and others and from the unhappiness we feel because we are regularly disappointed when we and others (especially those we love and revere) fall short of our expectations.

What if we could acknowledge the truth of our natures, and, instead of working so damned hard to avoid that dreaded imperfection, simply let our perfect hearts lead?  On this gray and rainy winter’s day, it feels as if this is a lesson we might do well to take to heart and see what amazing things just might happen!

Shabbat Shalom to all,
Marci

P.S. February is a month in which we really need to practice gratitude infused with the knowledge that spring is not too far away!
